The NB2DSK-SPK01 has a 16-way Male connector used to attach it to the NB2DSK01 motherboard, which has a corresponding 16-way Female connector.

The following sections detail the signals made available to the NB2DSK-SPK01 through this connector.

Audio Signals

The differential amplified speaker outputs (LOUT-, LOUT+ / ROUT-, ROUT+) from the NB2DSK01's stereo audio power amplifier are routed to the connector, appearing as signals L_MINUS, L_PLUS, R_MINUS and R_PLUS (on the speaker board itself). They are used to drive the board's 4Ω speakers.

The signal from the potentiometer on the motherboard that provides volume control is also wired directly to this connector, arriving at pin 1 (signal DC_VOL on the speaker board). This signal is currently not used.

SPI Bus Interface

The Nanotalk Controller provides two SPI paths to the speaker board connector to enable communication with/control of, the SPI-based LED driver devices resident on the NB2DSK-SPK01. Speaker board connector signals DIN1, SCLK1, CS1_N (routed to the LED driver designated U2) and DIN2, SCLK2, CS2_N (routed to the LED driver designated U3), provide this connectivity.

Speaker Board Identification Signal

The NanoTalk Controller uses a dedicated ID line (AUD_1WIRE), based on the 1-Wire serial bus protocol, to identify the speaker board that is attached to it. Board identification is achieved through use of a 1-Wire compatible slave memory device located on the NB2DSK-SPK01. For more information, see NB2DSK-SPK01 Resources - Board ID Memory.

Power Signals

The speaker board connector provides 3.3V and 5V power supplies to the docked NB2DSK-SPK01, as well as power ground.

Location on Board

The docking connector (designated HDR1) is located centrally, on the component side of the board – between the board's stereo speakers.
