Ability to Assign Lifecycle Definition and Revision Naming Schemes to Content Types

Old Content - see latest equivalent

Altium Vault 2.5 brings the ability to control how your defined lifecycle definitions and revision naming schemes are used by the Items created in the vault. You can opt to allow a definition/naming scheme to be used by any Item type, as before, or you can determine allowed usage at the individual Item/Content type level. This gives you that extra level of control to ensure created Items of a particular type only use the lifecycle definition and/or revision naming scheme you require. Just the ticket to fend off the inadvertent use of the wrong schema during the heat of design by your engineers and designers!

Access

Control over which Item types can use a particular lifecycle definition or revision naming scheme, is performed from within the Content Types dialog. Access to this dialog is made as follows:

  • Lifecycle Definition - access the Edit Lifecycle Definitions dialog from the Data Management - Vaults page of the Preferences dialog, by selecting the vault, clicking the Properties button, then selecting Edit Lifecycle Definitions from the drop-down menu. Once there, click on the tab for the particular definition whose access you wish to configure, then click the Content Types link.

  • Revision Naming Scheme - access the Edit Revision Naming Schemes dialog from the Data Management – Vaults page of the Preferences dialog, by selecting the vault, clicking the Properties button, then selecting Edit Revision Naming Schemes from the drop-down menu. Once there, click on the tab for the particular naming scheme whose access you wish to configure, then click the Content Types link.

Controlling use of a definition/scheme

The Content Types dialog lists all of the supported Item types that can be created in an Altium Vault. For the lifecycle definition/revision naming scheme currently being configured, simply enable the associated Use option for each Item type that you would like to be able to use that definition/scheme.

The option above the list provides global control over whether the feature is active (enabled) or not (disabled), for that particular definition/scheme.
The configured usage for a definition/scheme can not be changed once an Item has been created that uses that definition/scheme, and data has been released into the initial revision of that Item.
The feature is disabled by default, if you are updating an Altium Vault that already contains released data.
