Summary

The System – Projects Panel page of the Preferences dialog provides controls for operations in projects panel.

Access

The System – Projects Panel page is part of the main Preferences dialog (DXP >> Preferences) and is accessed by clicking the Projects Panel entry under the System folder, in the left hand pane of the dialog.

Options/Controls

General

  • Show open/modified status -  Enable this option if you wish to see whether design documents have been edited, saved or just loaded in on Projects panel. 
  • Show VCS status - Toggle this option to show the status of the document in respect to the version control system on the Projects panel. It might be checked out or checked in.
  • Show document position in project - Enable this option to show the document positions on Projects panel relative to the project, these documents are part of, and indexed by a number in parentheses.
  • Show full path information in hint - Enable this option to include full path information in the tool-tip when the cursor is hovering over a document name on the Projects panel. Disable this option to only display the document name in the tool-tip.
  • Show Grid - Enable this option to show the grid on the Projects panel. This grid is a visual reference to display items in rows and columns on the panel.

File View

  • Show Project Structure - If the Structure option on the Projects panel is enabled, the structure view of projects will be displayed. Enable this option to show the structure of intra-projects (consisting of sheets and sheet symbols) and inter-projects (connections between projects and the components that link them) on the Projects Panel. Disable this option and all projects including sub projects are displayed in their own right on the Projects panel.
  • Show Document Structure - The Projects panel with the File option enabled displays the file structure as a hierarchy for schematic documents. Enable this option to show the structure of opened projects and its sub - projects on the Projects panel. Disable this option and all projects including sub projects are displayed in their own right on the Projects panel.

Structure View

  • Show Documents - Enable this option to show the documents of a project on the Projects Panel only if the Structure option is enabled.
  • Show Sheet Symbols - Enable this option to show the sheet symbols representing schematic documents of a project on the Projects Panel only if the Structure option is enabled.
  • Show Nexus Components - Enable this option to show the Nexus components used in a project on the Projects Panel only if the Structure option is enabled.

Default Expansion

Within this region, the users can define the default document expansion style when open a project.

  • Fully contracted - Enable this option and only projects will be shown in the Projects panel. This only takes effect after the software has started up.
  • Expanded one level - Enable this option and only projects and top level documents will be shown in the Projects panel. This only takes effect after the software has started up.
  • Source files expanded - Enable this option and only source documents such as schematic documents of a project will be displayed on the Projects panel and the other document types such as output job files and database link files folders will remain contracted. This only takes effect after the software has started up.
  • Fully expanded - Enable this option and all files of any open project will be shown in the Projects panel. This only takes effect after the software has started up.

Sorting

The users can define how to order documents in Projects panel in this region.

  • Project order - Click on this option if you want the documents on the Projects panel to be sorted according to the order they were inserted in this Project. Note the documents on this Projects panel can be sorted in groups or as a linear list depending on the Grouping setting.
  • Alphabetically - Click on this option if you want the documents on the Projects panel to be sorted alphabetically in groups or as a list depending on the Grouping setting.
  • Open/modified status - Click on this option if you want the documents on the Projects panel to be sorted according to the status they are in, ie opened documents, edited documents and unopened documents.
  • VCS Status - Click on this option if you want design documents to be sorted on the Projects panel whether they are logged as checked out, checked in or as standalone documents from a Version control system.
  • Ascending - Enable this option if you want design documents to appear in an ascending order on the Projects panel.

Grouping

The users can define how to group documents in Projects panel in this region.

  • Do not group - Enable this option if you just want a unsorted list of design documents in the Projects panel.
  • By class - Enable this option to list documents into one of the three document classes; Source documents, library documents and generated documents on the Projects panel.
  • By document type - Enable this option if you wish to group documents according to the document type they are. For example schematic design documents go under the Schematic Sheets folder and Output documents go under the Job Files folder.

Single Click

The users can define the single click operation in Projects panel in this region.

  • Does nothing - Click on this option to cause the single click on the Projects panel to do nothing.
  • Activates open documents/objects - Click this option if you want to single click on a document icon on the Projects panel to bring in front any currently open design document that is not in focus.
  • Opens and shows documents/object - Click this option if you want to single click on a document icon on the Projects panel to open this design document in the workspace.
