Summary

As its name suggests, the Data Management – File Locking page of the Preferences dialog allows you to set up File Locking related features.

Access

The Data Management – File Locking page is part of the main Preferences dialog (DXP » Preferences) and is accessed by clicking the File Locking entry under the Data Management folder, in the left hand pane of the dialog.

Options/Controls

Enable File Locking - Enable the file locking, if you wish for your Altium Designer to assume ownership of the open documents. Other Altium Designers will not be able to change the documents that the current Altium Designer currently owns. You can also enable file locking for documents in the Project Output Directory.

You can also set the warning levels for locked files during opening or saving in two Warning level drop down lists.

Enable File Locking Output Directory- Enable the file locking, if you wish for your Altium Designer to assume ownership of the open documents from the Project Output directory. Other Altium Designers will not be able to change the documents that the current Altium Designer currently owns.

In the Projects panel, those files that are owned by the current Altium Designer are marked with a green padlock and other files that are owned by other Altium Designers are marked with Red padlock

You can also set the warning levels for locked files during opening or saving in two Warning level drop down lists.

Warning Level

Warning Level for locked files during Open - You can set the warning level message in the Dialog box or in the message panel when a locked file is being opened or saved.
Warning Level for locked files during Save - You can set the warning level message in the Dialog box or in the message panel when a locked file is being opened or saved.

Upon file loading and saving, you are warned about files owned by another Altium Designer instance: you can be warned either by a dialog box or by a message in Message panel. Choose the warning level by setting the "Warning level for locked files during open" and "Warning level for locked files during Save" combo boxes appropriately.
