The IEEE Symbol Dialog.

Summary

IEEE symbols are non-electrical drawing primitives. They are used for representing logic functions or devices. These symbols enable users to understand the logic characteristics of these functions or devices without requiring specific knowledge of their internal characteristics.

The designer can specify properties for IEEE symbol in IEEE Symbol dialog,

Access

During placement, the dialog can be accessed by pressing the Tab key.

After placement, the dialog can be accessed in one of the following ways:

  • Double-clicking on the placed manual junction object.
  • Placing the cursor over the manual junction object, right-clicking and choosing Properties from the context menu.

Options/Controls

Properties

  • Symbol -  This field defines the graphical IEEE symbol. Select a symbol from the drop down list.
  • X-Location - The field specifies the X coordinate of the position of the IEEE symbol. To change the position of the symbol, enter the X coordinate value in the field. The symbol can also be moved graphically by clicking and dragging directly on the symbol with the mouse.
  • Y-Location - The field specifies the Y coordinate of the position of the IEEE symbol. To change the position of the symbol, enter the Y coordinate value in the field. The symbol can also be moved graphically by clicking and dragging directly on the symbol with the mouse.
  • Size - This field specifies the size of the IEEE symbol on the schematic library sheet.
  • Orientation - This field specifies the rotation of the IEEE symbol relative to the horizontal. Select an orientation from the drop down list. Symbols can be rotated in 90 degree increments. The Symbol can also be rotated graphically. To do this, click-and-hold the mouse over the symbol and then press the SPACEBAR to rotate it. While holding the mouse button you can also reposition the symbol by dragging the mouse.
  • Mirrored - Enable this option and the IEEE symbol will be mirrored on the schematic (flipped across the vertical axis).
  • Locked-  If this option is checked, the IEEE Symbol is protected from being edited graphically. Lock an IEEE symbol whose position or size is critical. If you try to edit a design object that is locked, you will be informed that this object is locked and asked if you wish to proceed with the action. If this option is unchecked, the design object can be freely edited without confirmation.

If the Protect Locked Objects option is enabled in the Schematic - Graphical Editing page of the Preferences dialog (Tools » Schematic Preferences), and the Locked option for this design object is enabled as well then this object cannot be edited

  • Line Width - Select an option from the drop down list to specify the line width used to draw the symbol outline.
  • Color - There is currently no help available for this control.
