Summary

The Harness Connector dialog allow designers to edit the properties of Harness Connector on schematic.

Access

The Harness Connector dialog can be accessed prior to entering placement mode, from the Schematic - Defaults Primitives page of the Preferences dialog (DXP » Preferences). This allows you to change the default properties for the Harness Connector object, which will be applied when placing subsequent Harness Connector.

During placement, the Harness Connector dialog can be accessed by pressing the Tab key.
After placement, the Harness Connector dialog can be accessed in one of the following ways:

  • double-clicking on the placed Harness Connector object
  • selecting the graphic object and choosing Properties from the right-click pop-up menu (Schematic Editor only)
  • choosing the Change command from the Edit menu and then clicking once over the placed harness connector object.

Properties Tab

Appearance

  • Location X - The field specifies the current X coordinate of the left-hand edge of Harness Connector object. To change the position of the Harness Connector object, enter the X coordinate value in the field. The position of the Harness Connector object can also be set graphically by clicking and dragging the harness connector object with the mouse.
  • Location Y - The field specifies the current X coordinate of the left-hand edge of Harness Connector object. To change the position of the Harness Connector object, enter the X coordinate value in the field. The position of the Harness Connector object can also be set graphically by clicking and dragging the harness connector with the mouse.
  • X Size - This field specifies the current graphical width of the harness connector. The width in X direction can be set graphically when you place a harness connector on a schematic. You can also enter a number in this field to set the width of the harness connector.
  • Y Size - This field specifies the current graphical height of the harness connector. The height in Y direction can be set graphically when you place a harness connector on a schematic. You can also enter a number in this field to set the height of the harness connector.
  • Primary Position - Enter a value to reposition the top part of the tip that is part of the bracket which represents the side of the connector. Note, this side connects to a signal harness. The position of this tip can also be set graphically by clicking and dragging this with the mouse on the schematic sheet.
  • Border Width -  Select an option from the drop down list to set the line width used to draw the border of the harness connector. Available line width values are Smallest, Small, Medium and Large.
  • Border Color - Click the color sample to change the color of the border.
  • Fill Color - Click the color sample to change the fill color.

Properties

  • Harness Type - Enter the Harness Type string that identifies this harness connector. Harness Entries are linked to specific harness connectors by Harness Types. A signal harness has a corresponding harness type.
  • Hide Harness Type - Enable this option to hide the Type string attached to this Harness Connector object.
  • Locked -  If this option is checked, the harness connector is protected from being edited graphically. Lock an harness connector whose position or size is critical. If you try to edit a design object that is locked, you will be informed that this object is locked and asked if you wish to proceed with the action. If this option is unchecked, the design object can be freely edited without confirmation.

Note if the Protect Locked Objects option is enabled in the Schematic - Graphical Editing page of the Preferences dialog (Tools » Schematic Preferences), and the Locked option for this design object is enabled as well then this object cannot be edited.

Harness Entries Tab

  • Entries List - This is a list of existing harness entries for this harness connector. Use the Add or Remove buttons to add or remove harness entries respectively. You may have to manipulate the new entries to new locations within this harness connector graphically after you have added the new entries.
  • Add -  Click this button to add a new harness entry to the Harness Connector object. To remove an existing harness entry, click the Remove button.
  • Remove -  Click this button to remove an existing harness entry from the Harness Connector object. To add a new harness entry, click Add.
