The Extensions and Updates Dialog.

Summary

This Extensions and Updates dialog allows designer to install, update, or remove additional functionality. This functionality could include mixed-signal circuit simulation, core embedded design technologies, or maybe support for a new FPGA device family. In short, any targeted packages of functionality that extend and enhance the feature set of Altium Designer – collectively known as Altium Designer Extensions.

Access

Access this dialog by clicking the Extensions and Updates entry on the software's pop-out resources pane – accessed by clicking the button.

Options/Controls

Installed – extensions and devices currently installed as part of your Altium Designer installation.
Available – new extensions and devices available for addition to your Altium Designer installation.
Updates – any updates that are available for currently-installed extensions and devices.
Features – core design functionality for Altium Designer. This view allows you to add or remove features and functionality at any stage after installation, directly from within the software.

The Installed, Available and Updates views of the dialog are further divided into Extensions and Devices sub-views. Devices are simply targeted extensions in support of specific physical device families, for use in soft design.

Installed View

Here shows extensions and devices currently installed as part of your Altium Designer installation. You can uninstall extensions and devices or check detailed information in this view.

Installed Extensions and Devices List - In the middle of the panel, all installed extensions and devices are listed.
- Uninstall - Click the Uninstall button to uninstall selected extensions or devices.

Be sure to restart Altium Designer after you have finished uninstalling the required extensions, in order for their functionality to be removed from the installation.

Detailed Information - At the right hand of the panel list the details information of the extensions or devices, which includes:
- Whom the extension was created by.
- Its version.
- A more detailed description.

Available View

Here list new extensions and devices available for addition to your Altium Designer installation. You can install extensions or devices in this view.

Available Extensions and Devices List - In the middle of the panel, all available extensions and devices are listed.
- Install - Click the install button to install selected extensions or devices.

For installed extensions or devices, there will be a green tick at right.

Be sure to restart Altium Designer after you have finished installing the required extensions, in order for the functionality they provide to take effect

Updates View

Here list any updates that are available for currently-installed extensions and devices. You can click Update button to update extensions or devices in this view.

Extensions and Devices List Need Update - In the middle of the panel, all available extensions and devices which can be updated are listed.
- Update - Click the Update button to update selected extensions or devices.
Version Info - The right-hand section providing detailed information about the selected extension will reflect the currently installed version, and the new version available.

Be sure to restart Altium Designer after you have finished updating the required extensions, in order for their newer functionality to take effect.

Feature View

Core design functionality for Altium Designer. This view allows you to add or remove features and functionality at any stage after installation, directly from within the software.

Feature List - In the middle of the panel, all core design functionality for Altium Designer are listed. For those already installed feature, there's a tick in front of the feature.
- Apply - Click the Apply button to installed the selected features.
