The latest release of Altium Designer – Altium Designer 10 – does not require a new version of the Private License Server. The Summer 09 version of the server, Build 9.0.0.17655, is compatible with AD10 licenses. Simply remove the Summer 09 licenses and Activate the AD10 licenses. Please note that the Version column displays AD10 licenses as W10.

A Private License Server can continue to serve licenses for older versions of Altium Designer where needed. A Private License Server hosting a Private Server license for Altium Designer 10 is capable of serving seats of the license to the following five versions of the software:

Altium Designer 10
The Summer 09 release of Altium Designer
The Winter 09 release of Altium Designer
The Summer 08 release of Altium Designer
Altium Designer 6

Preparation

It is recommended that you backup all license files (*.alf) generated for prior versions of Altium Designer. For a default installation of Altium Designer on Microsoft Windows XP, .alf files can be found in the \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Altium2004 folder. It is recommended that you backup all .alf files in this folder and then delete them from this folder – to avoid any duplication.

Upgrading the Private License Server Software

After backing up the license files, remove the old Private License Server and add the new Private License Server, according to the following steps:

Stop the existing Private License Service by right clicking on the icon in the Windows System Tray and choosing Stop service and Exit.

Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs.

Click on the Altium Designer Private License Server entry in the subsequent Add or Remove Programs dialog that appears, then click the Remove button to uninstall this version of the license service.

Delete the following entry in the registry: HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Altium2004

If you have run the Private License Server as an application, you will also need to delete the following additional registry entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altium2004.
Install the new version of the Private License Server.

Setting up Licenses

Once you have installed the new Private License Server you'll need to:

Add your backed-up license files (see Manually Adding Licenses to a Private License Server).

Activate your Private Server license(s) for the latest version of Altium Designer (see License Activation).
