New Features in Altium Designer 15

Altium Designer 15 continues the tradition of delivering a mix of substantial new features along with improvements and enhancements to existing features. The introduction of 3D PDF generation allows PCB designers to export their board in the universal 3D PDF format, for interactive 3D viewing in the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader. Multi-line text strings are now supported in the PCB Editor, simplifying the process of adding design notes and annotations to the board. Support for rigid-flex continues to grow with the addition of custom coverlays, a key ingredient of many rigid-flex designs. Pads and vias can now be pre-defined and stored in templates and libraries, user-define Unions (groups of objects) are easier to work with via the new Unions mode of the PCB panel, and polygons are now more easily managed with configurable automatic naming and and intelligent dependency monitoring, ensuring they re-pour in the correct order.

The new Schematic Symbol Generation Tool simplifies and speeds up the schematic symbol creation process for large scale devices, where pins are configured using grid based tabular data, and copy/paste/smart paste operations are supported. The new Tasking Pin Mapper provides one-way pin data synchronization between the TASKING VX-toolset for ARM® and Altium Designer.

These are just a few of the features and enhancements include in Altium Designer 15 and its subsequent updates, continuing the Altium tradition of providing you with a world class design solution.

New Features in Altium Designer 14.0 - 14.3

A host of updates and enhancements have been delivered in releases 14.0 through to 14.3, including: support for Flex and Rigid-Flex design; embedded components; True Variants; Jumper support; via shielding; enhanced polygon editing and management; and greatly enhanced layer stack management. In addition, installation of Altium Designer was made even more intuitive and streamlined, courtesy of the self-contained Altium Designer Installer. And facilitating the ability to enhance your Altium Designer instance, support for customization of the software was delivered, through the concept of Extensions. An extension is effectively an add-on to the software, providing extended features and functionality. These were just a few of the features and enhancements available through the release of Altium Designer 14 and its subsequent three updates, continuing to emphasize our commitment to providing you with a world class design solution.

New Features in Altium Designer 12 and 13

A host of updates and enhancements have been delivered in releases 12 and 13, with perhaps the most exciting being the introduction of ActiveBOM. Facilitating real-time cost estimation and tracking for a board design, ActiveBOM efficiently aides the designer in managing costs and availability of items used in that design. It offers a live presentation of the design from the outset, providing early and ongoing cost estimation. Added to the design project as a distinct BOM document (*.BomDoc), ActiveBOM helps electronic designers to play a more strategic role, by allowing costing and availability of design items to become active, real-time element drivers of the design process.
