NanoConnectors

Frozen Content
This documentation is now considered legacy - Altium no longer manufactures, nor sells, any of the NanoBoard, Peripheral Board, Daughter Board, or other connected hardware, detailed here.

Altium's range of NanoBoards (NanoBoard NB2, 3000-Series NanoBoard) each feature one or more 'NANOCONNECT' interfaces, by which to dock a satellite daughter board or peripheral board(s), where applicable. When a satellite board is plugged-in, such an interface consists of a pairing of Altium NanoConnector's – a 100-way female NanoConnector 'Plug' on the motherboard, mated with a 100-way male NanoConnector 'Receptacle' on the satellite board.

Altium supports (and encourages!) you to develop your own daughter board and peripheral board hardware, enabling you to further expand and customize the abilities of your reprogrammable hardware development system. This allows you to incorporate the physical FPGA devices and peripheral resource technologies you require, as part of your drive to create innovative electronic products. Use of NanoConnector receptacles on such boards is a requirement should you wish to attach the board to an Altium NanoBoard.

When designing a daughter board, you will need to add three NanoConnector receptacles. When designing a peripheral board, you will need to add a single NanoConnector receptacle. NanoConnector plugs are traditionally only used on the NanoBoards themselves, but would be needed should you wish to create a production board of your own, with facility to receive satellite plug-in boards.

Whatever your design requirements, Altium has you covered with its readily-available NanoConnectors. Each type – plug or receptacle – is a high-quality, 100-way vertical surface mount connector, providing 0.8mm pitch and a mating height of 8.5mm. Available in packs of 9, you will never be left searching for a connector to attach your boards again!

NanoConnector Receptacle

The NanoConnector Receptacle enables you to design and manufacture custom plug-in boards for attachment to an Altium NanoBoard.

Daughter boards may be constructed, provided the pinout requirements of the motherboard's daughter board docking connectors (NanoConnector Plugs) – HDR_T1, HDR_L1 and HDR_B1 – are met. Similarly, peripheral boards may be constructed with any required resources, provided the pinout requirements of the motherboard's generic peripheral board docking connector (NanoConnector Plug) are met.

NanoConnector Plug

The NanoConnector Plug is traditionally used on a NanoBoard motherboard, but could just as easily be located on a production board, to maximize use of a plug-in satellite board – especially a peripheral board – between development and testing on the one hand, and the final product deployed in the field, on the other.
