From the 1st November, 2013, changes have been made to the license management system that affect the way in which you login to the Altium Portal from within Altium Designer. This change affects customers using Standalone or Private Server Licenses of Altium Designer Summer 09. To login, simply follow these steps:
  1. Ensure all Altium Account Management Servers are set to use 'portal2' in their connection addresses. When you sign in to your account, you do so through an Altium portal. On the Altium side, a portal is simply a secure connection through to a specific Altium Account Management Server. You can specify which portal to use for your Primary connection when accessing your account, and also two Backup portals – used, in order, should the Primary portal be unavailable for whatever reason. This is performed on the System – Account Management page of the Preferences dialog. Quick access to this page is provided by clicking on the Account Preferences link, in the top region of the My Account page.
  2. Close Altium Designer.
  3. Ensure that you have an AltiumLive account setup. If your organization has an account with Altium, then you will automatically become a member of the AltiumLive community when a Group Administrator for that account adds you as a new user to that account. Your AltiumLive account credentials are sent to you in an email at that time.
  4. Open Altium Designer and sign-in using your AltiumLive credentials.

Downloads

There are three ways to update Altium Designer.

1. Web updates from within Altium Designer

Altium Designer includes the ability to check for, download or automatically install updates from within the Altium Designer software.

This is configured in the Altium Designer Preferences panel.

To be able to check for web updates, you will need to sign into your account using your AltiumLive credentials.

2. Self-contained updates with setup programs

Each Altium Designer software update is also available as a separate download with its own setup program to install the update.

3. Web updates using a local update server

Web updates can be manually downloaded and stored on an internal file server. Each Altium Designer installation can be configured to search for and download required updates from this internal server.

Private License Server updates

For instructions on installing and activating the Private License Server, refer to Using a Private Server License.

Prior to installing license server updates, you must uninstall your existing Private License Server (or Floating License Server as it was previously known) by using Add and Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. We recommend you backup any important information in the Altium Designer installation directory prior to uninstalling.
