The Comparator tab of the Project Options dialog.

Summary

The Comparator tab of the Project Options dialog enables you to define the setup for the Comparator, in terms of which types of differences to find and which to ignore, when comparing documents.

The tab lists comparisons that can be made when comparing documents. Set up the various comparisons - associated with components, nets and parameters - as required. For each possible comparison, you can either choose to Find Differences or Ignore Differences, using the associated drop-down in the Mode column.

Access

Click Comparator tab in Printer Options dialog (Project » Project Options).

Options/Controls

  • Grid Difference Levels - This Comparison window outlines differences associated with Components, Nets and Parameters for a project. For each difference type, you can set the mode to Find Differences or Ignore Differences by clicking on the Mode field. Any differences found when documents in a project are being compared will appear in the Messages window when compiling.

  • Grid Partial Matches - Use this list to define the object matching criteria for nets, net classes and component classes. In each column you can change the values of how objects are matched by clicking in a field. For those objects that have not been matched, you can define the matching in the manual matching dialog.

  • Ignore Rules Defined in PCB Only - Enable this option to ignore rules defined in the PCB only within the design project. For instance, when you do an engineering order change, changes can be applied from schematic to PCB and if this option is enabled, the rules in PCB only are ignored and if there are no corresponding rules in schematic sheets of the same project then the comparator will not try to add new rules.

  • Set To Installation Defaults - Click this  button to return the Mode entry for each of the comparison types to the default state (which is Find Differences for all).

Notes

If a comparison type has its Mode defined as Ignore Differences, then any differences that exist of that type will not be shown in the Differences between dialog, when a comparison is performed.
